< Alexay Sergeech Tolmachoff   (1861-1937) came from the village of Nikitino in Trans-Caucasus, Russia. By occupation he was a blacksmith.  His wife was Maria Filipivna (Novikova) (1868-1952). They brought the manuscripts of Maxim Gavrilovich to America.

In 1905, two of his sons, Ivan and Vasili, migrated to Los Angeles. They wrote to their father to come, but he said he would only come on condition that they settle on the farm.
